How Laevomecol Works

Laevomecol’s effectiveness stems from its dual-action formulation:

• Chloramphenicol (antibiotic): This component provides bacteriostatic activity by disrupting bacterial protein synthesis. It helps control the growth of common wound pathogens, including Staphylococcus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and other aerobic and anaerobic bacteria often found in infected wounds.

• Methyluracil (regeneration enhancer): This ingredient supports the regeneration and réparation of damaged tissues by accelerating cell proliferation and enhancing the body’s natural healing mechanisms. It also helps reduce local inflammation, facilitating improved wound closure and scar formation.

The ointment’s hydrophilic base (polyethylene glycol) helps absorb exudate and maintain an optimal moist environment for wound healing while facilitating deeper penetration of the active substances.

For deep or purulent wounds, Laevomecol may be introduced via sterile catheter or drainage tube after warming the ointment slightly (35–36 °C). Treatment continues daily until the wound is free of necrotic or infected tissue.
